Conference History

California Baseball Powerhouse

The Big West Conference has produced some of college baseball's most storied programs. Cal State Fullerton stands as the conference's flagship, with four national championships (1979, 1984, 1995, 2004) and a remarkable tradition of developing MLB talent including Mark Kotsay, Aaron Rowand, and Tim Wallach.

Long Beach State made its mark with a CWS appearance in 1998, while UC Irvine has emerged as a consistent NCAA Tournament contender. The addition of Hawaii brings unique geographic diversity and a passionate fan base to the conference. Programs like Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Riverside round out a competitive California-centric league.
