Power on power, with both rotations rested for the first super-regional weekend. Texas has the deeper arms (Volantis is the best pitcher in the series) and the home dirt at Disch-Falk. Oregon has matched the Longhorns’ home-run output and has a Game 1 ace in Sanford who struck out 14 in the regional. Whichever lineup solves the other’s Friday/Saturday starter first controls the series; nobody here is winning 2-1 on fumes.
This is the best-pitched, most evenly-matched super regional on the board, and it’s in Austin. Texas is the better team top to bottom and Volantis is the separator. When the staffs are this even, the side with the clear best arm usually takes two of three. Oregon’s power makes a split realistic, but the Longhorns should be the team that books Omaha.
