How BSI handles data, sources, freshness, and contradictions. The floor every published surface is held to before it ships.
Every visible number on a BSI page traces back to a live data source. No mocks, no placeholders, no sample arrays, no synthetic seeds. If the upstream source is unavailable, the page says so explicitly — empty state with a stated reason — rather than rendering invented content.
Every data card carries a small badge identifying where the numbers came from (Highlightly Pro, ESPN, BSI internal computation) and when they were fetched. Fresh or stale, the visitor sees which.
Loading, error, empty, populated — each state is rendered explicitly. A spinner that never resolves, a blank table without context, or a page that hangs is treated as a defect, not a finished surface.
Phrases like "live now" or "updated 5 minutes ago" only appear when the underlying response actually returned that timestamp. BSI never hardcodes freshness language. If the source didn’t timestamp it, the surface doesn’t claim it.
When BSI doesn’t know something, the surface says so. No invented citations, no plausible-sounding fiction filling a gap, no manufactured authority. If we can’t verify a claim, we either flag it as unverified or we don’t publish it.
When poll voters, BSI’s model, mainstream media, and consensus markets disagree, the disagreement gets named — not averaged into a confident-sounding middle. The Perception Divergence product on college baseball games is the explicit version of this rule.
Program counts, recompute cycles, refresh intervals, and other internal-process metrics are not used as visitor-facing proof points. The work shows up as accurate data and clear methodology. Internal stats stay internal.

BSI focuses on athletes, programs, and markets that mainstream sports media routinely overlooks. Coverage spans MLB, NFL, NBA, NCAA football, NCAA baseball, and NCAA basketball — with particular emphasis on programs and players outside East Coast / West Coast media gravity.
Scouting language and sabermetric language run on the same page. A scout’s read about a hitter’s swing path and a Statcast-style barrel rate aren’t in conflict — they’re two layers of the same observation, and BSI presents them together.
BSI’s tagline. Every coverage decision is filtered through it: is this story already saturated by mainstream coverage, or is BSI bringing something the audience can’t get elsewhere? The second case is where BSI publishes.
These standards aren’t aspirational — they’re enforced. The codebase rejects mock-data patterns at commit time. Pre-deploy checks audit visitor-facing pages for the four-state contract. Methodology pages are linked from every product surface so readers can walk back from a number to the inputs that produced it.
If a BSI page ever shows you something that violates one of these standards — invented data, unattributed numbers, a spinner that never resolves, a freshness claim that doesn’t match the underlying timestamp — that’s a defect. Tell us.
